FAQs

What is a doula?

A doula is a trained professional who provides continuous physical, emotional, and informational support to mothers before, during, and shortly after childbirth. As your doula, I do not perform clinical tasks, but I work alongside your medical team to ensure you have a positive and empowering birth experience.

What services do you offer?

I offer comprehensive, full spectrum doula services including:
- Prenatal education and preparation
- Birth planning assistance
- Continuous support during labor and delivery
- Immediate postpartum support
- Breastfeeding guidance
- Postpartum follow-up visits and overnight care- - Bottle feeding assistance, pumping support flange fittings and pumping support

Will you work with my doctor or midwife?

Absolutely. I work collaboratively with your chosen healthcare providers to ensure you receive comprehensive care. My goal is to complement their medical expertise with continuous emotional and physical support.

How is a doula different from a midwife or labor and delivery nurse?

While midwives and nurses provide medical care, I offer non-medical support. My role is to provide continuous emotional support, informational and educational support, as well as physical comfort. As your doula, I will serve as an advocate for you and your partner throughout the birthing process.

Do you provide virtual services?

Yes, I offer virtual doula services, childbirth education and virtual birth support packages.

do you only support natural births?

No, I support all births. Whether you're planning an unmedicated birth, considering an epidural, or scheduling a cesarean section, my role is to support your informed choices and help you have the most positive experience possible.

When should I hire a doula?

It's best to hire a doula early in your pregnancy, ideally in the second trimester. This allows us time to build a relationship and thoroughly prepare for your birth. However, I can be hired at any stage of pregnancy if availability permits.

What if I have a cesarean birth?

I provide support for all types of births, including planned and unplanned cesarean sections. In the case of a c-section, I can offer support before the procedure, including educational and emotional preparation. This pre-surgical support takes place in the labor room, and often in the operating room (if hospital policy allows), as well as in the Recovery room, and immediately postpartum.

How many prenatal visits do you provide?

I typically offer two to three prenatal visits, but this can be adjusted based on your needs. During these visits, we'll discuss your questions, birth preferences, address any concerns, build your birth plan, and practice comfort measures for labor.

Do you have a backup policy?

I have a reliable network of backup doulas who share my philosophy of care. In the rare event that I'm unable to attend your birth due to illness or attending another birth, a qualified backup doula will step in to support you. You will have the opportunity to meet your backup doula(s) virtually prior to your estimated due date.
